Opening day is the Detroit equivalent of Mardi Gras. It’s a fantastic time, especially on the rare occasion that Mother Nature and the baseball gods smile down on Tiger town.

This time of year, recycled articles telling you what bars are two blocks away from Comerica Park are abundant. What happens if you can’t get downtown? What is a diehard fan to do in the *gasp* suburbs?

Have no fear baseball fans; we’ve compiled our totally subjective list of places that we think would be a blast to watch the revelry from afar.

When it comes to opening day, the ‘burbs have their unique charms: Cheaper Uber rides, shorter lines, and readily available restrooms. Grab a Michigan craft beer, pull up a bar stool, and get ready to kick off the 2016 Tigers season. Baseball is back!

Firehouse Pub & Grill (St. Clair Shores, MI)

Owned by three Detroit firefighters, the Firehouse Pub & Grill is a nice place to post up in St. Clair Shores for opening day. Pro tip: They’re selling t-shirts for charity, so you can support Detroit’s heroes and watch the game, too.

Renshaw Lounge (Clawson, MI)

Tons of TVs. Tons of Michigan craft beer on tap. What more do you need?

Renshaw Lounge is conveniently located on 14 Mile Road in Clawson, a short Uber ride from Royal Oak, Madison Heights, Troy, or Birmingham.

Clubhouse BFD (Rochester Hills, MI)

If you live in the Rochester area, Clubhouse BFD is a no-brainer. For a great selection of craft beer to pair with your opening day dreams of Tigers excellence, this is your place to be. Clubhouse BFD was named one of Draft Magazine’s Top 100 Beer Bars in 2013, 2014 and 2015, so don’t plan on ordering a Bud Light.

 Sherwood Brewing Company (Utica, MI)

Sherwood Brewing is a great spot for locally brewed beer and great food. If craft beer is your thing, Sherwood will be a great place to watch the Tigers’ home opener. They’ll be slinging $1 peanuts (hot dogs, too) and their Cracker Jacked Ale, a peanut butter toffee brown ale.

The Lodge (Keego Harbor, MI)

After a good friend swore up and down that The Lodge was the place to watch the Pistons, we had to check it out. Granted, we don’t watch basketball much, but we can’t argue with his assessment. The Lodge has great food, a fun atmosphere and tons of TVs.

24 Seconds (Berkley, MI)

If you’re in the Royal Oak/Berkley area and like sports bars, you’re probably familiar with 24 Seconds on 12 Mile in Berkley. What makes this a great opening day option is their rooftop deck, complete with a bar, TVs, and a good amount of seating. In case Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, there’s plenty of action on the main floor.

Irish Craft Food & Brew (Sterling Heights, MI)

Located just south of Metro Parkway on Mound Road, Irish Craft Food & Brew slings 16 oz. craft drafts for $5 like it’s going out of style. There are plenty of TVs for watching the game, including one at every booth. Order one of their pizzas or burgers and you’re set for a memorable opening day.

Library Sports Pub & Grill (Novi, MI)

The Library Sports Pub in Novi is a reliable opening day option for the Novi area and beyond. If you’ve never been here, you probably know someone who has. The only schooling happening here will be courtesy of future Hall of Famer, Miguel Cabrera.

Victory Inn (Warren, MI)

Founded in 1946, the Victory Inn is Warren’s original sports bar. Conveniently located on Mound Road, just north of I-696, Victory Inn is a good place to tip and few during the game.

Hungry? Soak up the booze with the Victory Burger, a hamburger patty topped with coleslaw and ham.

Mallie’s Sports Grill & Bar (Southgate, MI)

Mallie’s is the downriver destination for sports. In addition to extreme eating challenges and Guinness World Records, Mallie’s has 40 TVs and counting for watching the game.

Hamlin Pub (Multiple Locations)

With multiple locations, a plethora of TVs, and opening day specials, the Hamlin Pub is a no-frills bar that will deliver the game day action. If you feel like booze cruising downtown, all locations will be running shuttle buses, but you’d better reserve your spot in advance.

Shores Inn (St. Clair Shores, MI)

Domestic pints are $2.75 during Tigers games and all Michigan team games at Shores Inn on Greater Mack in St. Clair Shores.

Northville Sports Den (Northville, MI)

After watching the game at the Northville Sports Den, hop to other local favorites like the Garage Grill, Poole’s Tavern, or Brick’s of Northville.

BONUS:

A special shout out goes to former skipper Jim Leyland’s favorite hangout, Oak City Grille in Royal Oak. Anyone who frequents this bar has probably seen him sipping Scotch and talking with fans outside. He’s even been known to drop a legendary karaoke performance.
