It would be an understatement to say that hitting hundreds of restaurants per year is challenging. We visited 150 places we hadn’t been to before in 2016 alone. This is in addition to patronizing our favorite restaurants and watering holes that we’ve been to many times before. Inevitably, a busy schedule trekking across Michigan means that we don’t always get around to checking out every establishment we’ve been meaning to try. Mocha Bistro in Dearborn is a perfect example.

Offering a fusion of Yemeni and American cuisine, Mocha Bistro enticed us months ago with promises of glorious deep fried sandwich rolls and their signature dessert, the Mocha Treat. They fell off our radar for a while, but we finally made a point to check them out. Better late than never.

Mocha Bistro exceeded our lofty expectations with delicious, decadent creations like the Mocha Steak Roll. Imagine a Philly cheesesteak sandwich comprised of the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef. Add cheese, grilled onions, and peppers, then roll it up and deep fry it until it’s a crispy golden brown. After one bite, you’ll be wondering why more restaurants aren’t mimicking this glorious creation.

The mouthwatering Mocha Steak Roll is amped up with a side of mocha sauce for dipping. You can order your roll as a combo, giving you a side of super crispy fries, but make sure to save room for the mother of all desserts: The Mocha Treat.

Even though dessert isn’t in our wheelhouse — we prefer our calories in the form of a hoppy IPA — the Mocha Treat was stunning, both in flavor and presentation. The Mocha Treat masterminds start with a mango smoothie and top it with a thin layer of cake, followed by an assortment of fresh fruit like pineapple, apple, and strawberry. A drizzle of honey and a chocolate waffle stick crash the party, creating a truly addicting dessert. The best part: The Mocha Treat is heavy on fresh fruit, so guilt and regret are nowhere to be found.

If the indulgent eats we enjoyed the first time around are any indication, there’s a lot more to love at Mocha Bistro. Burgers, wraps, sandwiches (the Mocha Chicken Sub is a must), smoothies, milkshakes, and so much more are available. Needless to say, a follow up trip will happen sooner rather than later.
