Although we’ve traveled to many corners of Michigan, there’s no place like home. Surrounded by more well-known cities like Royal Oak and Birmingham, Berkley is often overlooked when it comes to dining and shopping. We’re trying to change that.

Our little slice of metro Detroit is home to some of the most unique restaurants in the area. Pizza joints, Mediterranean food, Indian cuisine: it’s all here and then some. Allow us to share a few standouts.

Amici’s Pizza & Living Room

Creative artisan pizzas and a martini list as long as the eye can see is what you’ll find at Amici’s Pizza & Living Room. When it comes to their Martinis, we highly-recommend their wonderful Salted Caramel Pretzeltini, complete with caramel drizzle and crushed pretzel rim. As for pizzas, you really can’t go wrong with anything you order.

In the summer, the quaint patio with ivy-lined brick creates an intimate space for dining. When it’s chilly outside, it doesn’t get much cozier than the restaurant’s living room and bar, complete with mood-setting fireplace.

Mr. Kabob

Mr. Kabob is a not-so-hidden gem located inside the Sunoco gas station at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Coolidge Highway. Don’t be fooled by their location. They’ve been slinging some of the best Mediterranean food around Detroit since 2003.

Grab a fresh pita wrap for lunch, order an entrée for dinner, or have the Gulli family serve your party with top-notch catering. From a Chicken Shawarma Wrap to a Chicken Cream Chop entrée, smooth-as-silk Hummus to the signature Sam Salad, you really can’t go wrong.

Little Lou’s Hot Chicken

For a juicy chicken sandwich and some of the plumpest tenders around, look no further than Little Lou’s Hot Chicken.

Uncle Andy’s Pizza

If you ask us, Uncle Andy’s Pizza has some of the best Detroit-style pizza and cheese bread in metro Detroit. Their crispy square pizzas are delicious and craveable, especially their specialty pies like the Chicken Bacon Ranch and Chicken Fajita.

What has really gotten Uncle Andy’s Pizza a lot of buzz is their super duper Triple Cheese Bread. The three cheese blend is melted to perfection, lending to a monumental stretch with every slice.

How can there be a better neighbor than one with a wide variety of wine, sandwiches, pizza, cookies baked in-house, and a delightful owner like Donna?!

Republica

If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you’ve probably gathered that we’re raving fans of Republica. We can’t stop blabbing about their fabulous Fish & Chips, Plato’s Potatoes (fries with feta), and tantalizing cocktails.

Although the menu features plenty of indulgent items, there are plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options that appeal to diners far and wide.

Vinsetta Garage

If you’re talking about unique restaurants in the metro Detroit area, it doesn’t get much cooler than Berkley’s Vinsetta Garage. Park yourself at a table or at the bar and enjoy an awesome burger, crispy pizza, or award-winning macaroni and cheese. Top off your fluids with any one of their Michigan craft beers on tap.

The open and airy space is one of a kind. Garage doors open on milder days, providing an indoor/outdoor experience with sounds from Woodward Avenue in the background. Echoes of mechanics and autos past permeate every inch of the building, creating a destination for diners from Berkley and beyond.

Crispelli’s Bakery & Pizzeria

Cruise into Crispelli’s on Woodward for a pizza with a thin, crispy crust from a stone-fired oven that bakes at 700-degrees. If you’re craving Detroit-style pizza, they have that as well.

The market-style interior features separate ordering stations for whatever appeals to you: pizza, paninis, salads, pasta, plus beer and wine. A full-service area awaits if you prefer being waited on.

Casa Amado

This new taqueria features the culinary prowess of Chef Amado Lopez. Enjoy a margarita or cerveza with Casa Amado‘s tacos, Sonoran dogs, or quesadillas.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern introduced their Berkley location in early 2020, bringing their signature round and Detroit-style pizzas to the area. A full bar and throwback interior make this a standout spot.
