What’s better than a bunch of ingredients getting busy between two pieces of bread? Nothing, if you ask us! Sandwiches are always a Michigan Chews & Brews favorite.
If you follow us on Instagram, you’ve had a front row seat to our favorite sandwiches across Michigan. From a grand grilled cheese to a satisfying Italian sub, we just can’t get enough of ’em. We invite you to explore some awesome sandwiches around Detroit.
Royale With Cheese (Detroit) — “All Up In Your Grill” Cheese Sandwich

The “All Up In Your Grill” Cheese Sandwich from Detroit’s Royale With Cheese is bonkers. Just look at the photo! The gooey fondue cheese cascading down the side of the sandwich adds a creaminess, while smoked gouda and parmesan add a great deal of richness. This cheese fest also invites a fried egg and turkey bacon to get in on the fun.
Ventimiglia Italian Foods (Sterling Heights) — Italian Sub

Prepare your taste buds for a celebration of Italian meats at Ventimiglia in Sterling Heights. The Italian Sub is highly recommended, but their Eggplant Sub is sought after too.
Ernie’ Market (Oak Park) — Monster

You have to try the Monster from Ernie’s Market in Oak Park at least once in your lifetime. You get 7 meats, cheese, and all the toppings your heart desires. The taste is almost as big as Ernie’s personality; he serves every sandwich with a lot of love.
Mudgie’s (Detroit) — Lobster Roll

To say that Lobster Roll week at Mudgie’s is a phenomenon would be a gross understatement. To sink your teeth into one of these sought-after beauties, you may find yourself waiting in a line that wraps around the building. Your patience will pay off in the end.
Zino’s Subs & Pizza (Madison Heights, Livonia & Belleville) — Zino Super Sub

Made on their homemade bread, Zino’s serves up a delicious delight known as the Zino Super Sub. You’ll love the way the salami, ham, turkey, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and ranch dressing come together on soft, fresh-from-the-oven bread. For all of you cheese bread fans out there, Zino’s makes some of the best we’ve had. Shout out to our brother for the heads up on this gem!
Vicente’s Cuban Cuisine (Detroit) — Cubano Grande

For an amazing Cuban sandwich without leaving the country, head to Vicente’s Cuban Cuisine in downtown Detroit. The pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and mayo on pressed Cuban bread will have you coming back for more.
Gonella’s (Detroit & Redford) — Italian Sub

Anyone on Detroit’s southwest side will tell you that you’re not a true Detroiter unless you’ve had an Italian Sub from Gonella’s. Order your sub based on the number of meat and cheese layers you’d like, then prepare for a feast. The fresh cuts of meat, veggies, and dressing taste magical on their locally baked bread. No wonder there’s a line wrapping around the store every day at lunch time.
Peepo’s Subs & Shawarma (Taylor) — Africano Sub

One of the more unique sandwiches on our list comes from Peepo’s Subs & Shawarma in Taylor. We recommend ordering their spicy Africano Sub with your choice of protein (we like the crispy chicken). The Africano sauce provides a good deal of heat, so wash it down with one of their delicious smoothies.
Little Lou’s Hot Chicken (Berkley) — Sando

Choose your level of heat, then take a big bite into Little Lou’s Hot Chicken Sando. They also have some of the best, plumpest chicken tenders around.
Matt & Mo’s (Hazel Park) — Italian Beef

There’s only one way to enjoy Matt & Mo’s Italian Beef: Hot, sweet, and dipped! They also make a damn good Caprese Sandwich.
The Neighbor Shoppe (Berkley) — Party Sub

We score one of these subs for the Super Bowl every year and can attest that it is an absolute touchdown. Pro Tip: use their Italian Dressing to drown the sub and whoever is butchering the halftime show this year.
Oak Parker (Oak Park) — Chicken Schnitzel Sandwich

The meat to bun ratio on this sandwich is completely off – in the best possible way! Topped with gruyere cheese and a creamy coleslaw this sammich can easily feed two people. Especially if you get it with their epic gravy fries.
Monger’s Provisions & The Rind Bar (Berkley) — Grilled Cheese

There are grilled cheeses, then there is THE grilled cheese done by Monger’s at the Rind. Monger’s is known for their epic selection of meat and cheeses and when they opened their Berkley shop a restaurant expansion was inevitable. The Rind features a revolving door of specialty grilled cheeses that are all fantastic!
Crispelli’s (Berkley) — Chicken Club Sandwich
Crunchy bread, delectable grilled chicken, cheese, and bacon, what’s not to love? We recommend getting the basil pesto menu and upgrading to their tasty steak fries!

Great list, just a shout out to few of me favorites, , Hygrade Deli, Johnnie Ham King, Alamos all been around more than 40 years still pack the crowd in every day.
The Stage Deli is so far above the rest it appears that payola was involved. The restaurant has great entrees as well as fabulous deli sandwich’s. 4 and one half stars for others with their limited menu’s compared to the Stage is simply this—an insult to all who depend on experts to send us in the right direction.
Fun Fact: MICB is a passion project for us, you can’t pay your way onto the sight. We’ve eaten everything in every photo you see. We can only eat so much, but will put Stage Deli on our try list. We suggest you give some of our favorites a try too…MI has much deliciousness to offer.
