The Winchester in Grand Rapids: Ever-Changing Menu Keeps Things Fresh

Farm to table seems to be quite the ubiquitous term lately. Far from lip service, it’s a way of doing business at The Winchester in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

On our first visit to The Winchester, we chopped it up with Dave, the General Manager, so we could learn a little more about what makes this neighborhood joint tick.

The Winchester combines ingredients cultivated from their garden across the street, tried-and-true cooking techniques, and respect for the ingredients they’re working with to create wholesome dishes that pair perfectly with a pint of locally brewed beer. The restaurant has its staples, but frequently rolls out special burgers, salads, shareables and more (we recommend following them on Instagram to see their latest and greatest eats).

Dave explained that every day should be different, because when you cook food you love, people will explore. You won’t find a boring, stagnant menu, which is refreshing to see.

Some of the most popular items on Winchester’s menu include the Duck Poutine, Bar Cheese, Adult French Toast Sticks for brunch, and the Classic Burger.

After one glorious bite, the Classic Burger became one of our favorite burgers in the Grand Rapids area. The beef was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to a perfect medium temperature. It’s a no-frills burger in the best possible way.

The Bar Cheese was a nice spread that featured crackers made from spent grain at Elk Brewing right up the street. You can’t go wrong with beer and cheese.

Dave recommended we try their Deviled Eggs, which were excellent as well.

A healthy selection of Michigan beer is always available, in addition to a rotating selection of cider. In fact, varieties of Vander Mill Cider and Ridge Cider originated at The Winchester.

For a casual meal with quality eats and Michigan beer, The Winchester gets our seal of approval.

The Winchester is located at 648 Wealthy St SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
