There has been a lot of buzz about the new OWL diner in Royal Oak, home of the former Onion Roll Deli. The stark black exterior drew attention months ago; the new 24-hour concept has finally come to fruition.
OWL’s menu is small and focused, featuring American staples like breakfast sandwiches and burgers, plus Mexican dishes like tacos and chilaques. From what we’ve seen on Instagram, customers are raving about the Avocado Toast.
Although the ordering and seating system was helter skelter — we trust that OWL will work out these kinks in the coming weeks — our food was tasty. We had the Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich, a real winner. We also had a Cheeseburger and the Fresh Fries with chili and poblano cheese sauce. The poblano sauce was a nice twist on the Detroit classic.
OWL is directly across from the Blarney Stone Pub, so we’re sure to return for some late night eats after a night out.
