Grand Rapids is known for its prominent beer scene, but did you know that the craft cocktail scene has come on strong with the steady addition of cocktail-centric bars and distilleries? Here are five formidable places to check out around town.
Long Road Distillers
Located on the city’s west side, Long Road Distillers is one of our favorite places to grab a cocktail in Grand Rapids. Come thirsty and don’t be shy about exploring their creations featuring award-winning spirits. Before you leave, grab a bottle of their renowned Aquavit, Best of Show and Best in Class at the 2017 American Craft Spirits Association Awards.
As you probably gathered from the name, One Bourbon takes whiskey very seriously. Adding to the monumental number of new drinking and dining options on Bridge Street, One Bourbon’s cocktail menu features creations utilizing various spirits, not just the one touted in its name. Drinks with names like #summertime and Rosé, All Day are sure to keep you refreshed, just in time for the dog days of summer.
Sidebar slings handcrafted cocktails in a speakeasy-like setting located below ground level in downtown Grand Rapids. A password is not required for entry, but a thirst for creative cocktails is necessary for an enjoyable experience.
Serving globally-inspired fare with a long list of libations, Divani sits in the middle of the action on Ionia Street in downtown Grand Rapids. Sip a classic cocktail or go for one of their signature creations like Midsummer Night’s Shrub, invented by mixologist Chris Maxim. Take a sip for yourself and see why it took first place at the Grand Cocktail competition in 2015.
Gray Skies Distillery
Gray Skies Distillery boasts a soaring lineup of spirits, including a utilitarian vodka, two types of rum, apple brandy, hopped gin, coffee liqueur, and single malt whiskey. The Michigan Single Malt Whiskey and Coffee Liqueur are our favorites and can be found throughout the distillery’s cocktail menu.
