The sushi burrito trend caught on a few years ago, reimagining sushi rolls into a larger, hand-held format. Being traditionalists when it comes to our raw fish rolled in sticky rice and seaweed, the sushi burrito didn’t entice us much — at least not to the extend that we considered it a must-try item.
During our recent visit to Grand Rapids, we broke down and tried the Umi Burrito at Jaku Sushi after reading rave reviews. Fresh tuna, salmon, shrimp, rice, tamago, masago, avocado, tobiko, and tempura flakes filled this awesome burrito. The freshness of the fish was complimented by the eel dipping sauce recommended by our server. Did Jaku Sushi convert us into sushi burrito fans? Just maybe.
