When dining out for breakfast, it’s easy to get into a routine. Two eggs over easy with sausage. Pancakes with a side of bacon. An omelet with hash browns and toast. We’re creatures of habit and there’s nothing wrong with that.
As you may know, our mission is to explore Michigan restaurants and share our experiences, so we always encourage people to step out of their comfort zones and try something new. Previously, we shared our list of great breakfast restaurants in Metro Detroit. Now, we’d like to share five standout dishes around Detroit that we think you should try.
From skillet to Benedicts, omelets to French toast, check out our list and let us know your favorites that everyone should try!
Plato’s Coney Island (Warren) — Huevos Rancheros Skillet
Plato’s Coney Island in Warren isn’t your typical Coney diner. Upon entering the restaurant, the trendy décor and warm welcome let us know that we were in for a treat. You won’t leave hungry when you order the Huevos Rancheros Skillet, featuring a heaping pile of black bean chili, chorizo, Monterey Jack cheese, three eggs, salsa and avocado (optional) atop a grilled pita and hash browns.
Family Table Café (Auburn Hills) — Pesto, Roasted Tomato & Mozzarella Omelet
We stumbled upon the Family Table Café in Auburn Hills and were pleasantly surprised. Our server suggested the Pesto, Roasted Tomato & Mozzarella Omelet; we weren’t disappointed! Although we didn’t try them, we heard that their house-made biscuits are quite popular.
Jonny Cakes Café (Troy) — Chorizo Benedict
The Chorizo Benedict at Troy’s Jonny Cakes Café is a winner that will have your taste buds Salsa dancing. Chorizo, avocado, cheese, a poached egg, and ranchero sauce sit atop an English muffin, creating a Benedict that’s bursting with flavor. As beautiful as it is tasty, this dish is outstanding. If you’re dining with company, be sure to share an Apple Cinnamon Crepe for good measure.
The Breakfast Club (Madison Heights) — Seafood Bowl
Why aren’t more restaurants incorporating seafood into their breakfast dishes? That’s what we wondered after thoroughly enjoying the Seafood Bowl at The Breakfast Club in Madison Heights. Don’t be deterred that it’s not the most photogenic dish; it’s delicious!
Ram’s Horn (Muliple Locations) — Cinnamon Caramel French Toast
Think you can’t find some killer breakfast items at one of the Ram’s Horn locations in southeast Michigan? Think again.
To say the Cinnamon Caramel French Toast is decadent would be an understatement. This dazzling dish features French toast slices coated in cinnamon, topped with whipped cream, and drizzled with caramel. Bacon crumbles are added for a savory dimension to the plate, creating a breakfast dish that keeps us coming back.
The Hills City Grille (Troy) — Hills Billy Omelet
Why choose between biscuits and gravy and an omelet when you can have both? The Hills Billy Omelet from The Hills City Grille in Troy is a match made in breakfast heaven. This divine dish starts with an omelet stuffed with sausage and hash browns, topped with sausage gravy and cheese, and served with biscuits on the side. You probably won’t need to eat the rest of the day.
