We could lounge outside at Port Huron’s Lake Fx Grill for hours on a sunny summer’s day (or at least until our sunscreen wears off). Who doesn’t want to soak up rays along the St. Clair River, cool drink in hand while massive freighters float by?
A welcome addition to Port Huron’s dining scene in 2017, Lake Fx Grill celebrates local products in addition to its noteworthy waterfront dining experience. It would be easy for a restaurant in their position to phone it in, making patrons shell out for cheap libations and substandard chow in exchange for the privilege of dining riverside. Did Lake Fx Grill go that route? Absolutely not.
Beyond its visual assets, the restaurant implores its patrons to enjoy the best the mitten has to offer. One example is their use of Founders All Day IPA and New Holland Freshwater Michigan Rum in their All Day Mojito. Bitterness from the beer subtly presents itself, adding another dimension of flavor to the classic Latin cocktail. A fine choice on a hot afternoon.
Lake Fx Grill’s menu has a notable lean towards fish and seafood, fitting of a restaurant located on the water. Dig into creations utilizing products like lake perch, walleye, and Lake Superior whitefish. A lineup of shareable plates — always a great way to go for trying a variety of dishes — showcases items like dips, roasted shrimp, walleye chowder, and poutine.
A fist bump to our friends on the other side of the St. Clair, Lake Fx Grill puts their spin on poutine with house-cut fries smothered in chorizo gravy, bacon, and chives. Whether it’s an intentional nod to Michigan’s sunrise coast or not, the creation is topped with a sunny-side up egg.
As if you needed another reason to stop by, patrons will soon be able to slurp fresh oysters with the addition of a new oyster bar expected later this year.
Lake Fx Grill is located at 3136 Military St, Port Huron, MI 48060.
