We came, we saw, we chewed and brewed. What We’re Chewin’ is a rundown of what’s currently tickling our taste buds.
Restaurant Reopenings

When restaurants were allowed to reopen with dine-in service on June 8th, we were cautiously optimistic. Carryout was working well for us, although you can’t replace bellying up to the bar or the excitement of your entrée arriving at your table. The first place we went to was an old standby: Oak City Grille in Royal Oak. We ordered our go-to appetizers and had the best tasting beer we’ve had in quite a while.
Slice Slice Baby

In uncertain times, you can always count on pizza. Our pizza adventures continued with Detroit-style slices from Shield’s. We haven’t checked out their new-ish location in Midtown Detroit, but their flagship restaurant in Troy sure satisfied. Not only did their pizza hit the spot, the Tuscan Chicken Club was a standout sandwich. We may have to put together a list of the best sandwiches served by pizzerias, what do you think?

After indulging in Detroit-style pizza, we switched gears and went with a wood-fired Neapolitan pizza from Royal Oak’s Bigalora. This no-frills pepperoni pizza is the most basic of all the gourmet pies they offer. With locations throughout southeast Michigan and as far west as Ann Arbor, Bigalora is worth checking out.
Stellar Subs

When it comes to a good Italian sub, there’s no substitute for Ventimiglia Italian Foods in Sterling Heights. This is a shot of their Turkey Sub, but head on over to our recent Pic of the Week to check out their Italian masterpiece.
