Thousands of hummus containers and a half-million chicken shawarmas ago, the Gulli family opened Mr. Kabob inside the Sunoco gas station in Berkley, Michigan in 2003.
Mr. Kabob won us over and has been one of our standbys for years with good reason. We regularly crave their delicious Mr. Kabob Platter, hummus, and baba ghanouj. Not only is the food outstanding, it’s a bonus that it’s so healthy.
The fact that Mr. Kabob is located in a gas station hasn’t slowed them down. After years of serving delicious Mediterranean eats while converting skeptics into believers, Mr. Kabob landed on Thrillist’s list of best gas station restaurants in America in 2015.
At the top of their game, the Gulli’s launched Mr. Kabob Xpress in Troy in September 2015. While the fantastic Mr. Kabob flavors and recipes are the same, the concept is quite different.
The Gulli family wanted to take Mr. Kabob Xpress back to their roots. Growing up, meals were served family-style, so no two plates were alike. This concept translates beautifully at Mr. Kabob Xpress; you can build your own bowl or wrap from a variety of fresh toppings and ingredients.

As you enter the restaurant and step in line, try not to salivate all over yourself (it’s not easy, trust us!). Begin by picking whether you want to create a bowl or wrap, then get creative. The friendly staff will pile on all of the fresh toppings your heart desires.
Load up on Mr. Kabob’s famous hummus and garlic sauce, add greens like fattoush or tabbouli, choose from the freshest of veggies like diced cucumber and olives, and top it off with a delicious protein like shawarma or filet kabob.
After you’ve created your Instagram-worthy masterpiece, get ready for a taste explosion. There are so many delicious flavors that compliment each other perfectly, you can’t go wrong.
If you’re not sure where to start, here is our recommendation that will have you licking the bottom of the bowl: Start with a bowl (a wrap is fine, too), then add hummus and garlic as the base. Add rice, cucumber salad, tomatoes, pickles, and pickled turnips. Top it with succulent filet kabob and finish with house dressing.

Based on early reactions, the Gulli’s have hit another home run with Mr. Kabob Xpress. Bring your appetite and tag us on Instagram so we can see your marvelous creations.
Mr. Kabob Xpress is located at 2036 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy, Michigan.
