Central Kitchen & Bar in Detroit garnered a lot of attention after opening in 2015. Their creative cocktails, elevated pub food and upscale yet approachable vibe landed them on the Detroit News’ 2015 list of the best new Metro Detroit restaurants with the likes of La Dulce, Mandaloun Bistro, and others.

Our latest trip to Central Kitchen & Bar was a pleasant one that found us sharing the Carnitas Tacos at the recommendation of our bartender. These generously-stuffed Tacos featured pork that was slow-cooked in-house, chayote slaw, crema, tomatillo salsa, and queso fresco. The pork was tender and flavorful, but the slaw and additional toppings really took the dish to the next level. We appreciated the ratio of meat to accompaniments, making for a wonderful bite.

Now that we’ve discussed our pleasure with Central’s kitchen, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention their bar! The cocktails we ordered were excellent, especially the Root Down. It featured Valentine Liberator Gin, muddled cucumber, freshly squeezed lime, beet and carrot shrub. The hint of beet at the end was a very unique and pleasant surprise.
