We first encountered Elk Brewing at the Beer City Spring Fest in 2014. At the time, they had just launched their first craft beer utopia at 700 Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids.
To our delight, a second Elk Brewing location opened earlier this year in Comstock Park, right around the corner from Fifth Third Ballpark. The sleek taproom features a bar running the entire length of the interior, tables, and retractable garage doors for indoor/outdoor seating during warmer months.
After scoping out Elk Brewing’s menu online, we set our sights on the Elk Burger. Perhaps one of the most gorgeous burger photos we’ve ever taken, the Elk Burger features a ground elk patty, beer braised onions, sautéed mushrooms, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, Swiss cheese and garlic aioli. Our hearts brimmed with enjoyment as juices from the burger dripped down our hands. You could distinguish the taste of the elk meat, a nice change of pace from an average beef burger.
Pints of Dankalicious and Rye IPA accompanied our wonderful burger experience. Service was on point, making Elk Brewing’s Comstock Park location one of our top recommendations in the Grand Rapids area.
