Bombowling, Beer & Bites at the HUB in Auburn Hills

Anyone who has ever watched a Detroit Lions game has probably imagined themselves as the 4th quarter savior. Who doesn’t want to throw a game winning pass with seconds left on the clock? Now metro Detroiters can rise from their armchairs and put their throwing skills to the test.

Imagine throwing a football across a court at nine bowling pins, trying to knock all of them down before your opponent. It sounds simple, but it’s not as easy as you think. Until recently, you could only play this casual sport, commonly known as fowling, in Hamtramck. Now, the newly christened HUB brings their take on the sport they’re referring to as “bombowling” to Auburn Hills. Remember the giant beer bottle along I-75 near M-59? That building, formerly Big Buck Brewing, has been completely renovated, becoming the HUB for entertainment and nightlife in the area.

The HUB brings “bombowling” to Auburn Hills.

If you think bombowling is the only draw at the HUB, think again. You don’t need to channel your inner Matthew Stafford to have a good time. The comforts of the bar and restaurant are perfect for enjoying a drink or meal while teams compete nearby. There’s even a DJ on weekends.

The food at the HUB certainly isn’t your typical stadium fare. Delicious gourmet pizzas are cranked out quickly in the HUB’s 1,000 degree oven. Our Margherita pizza was perfectly crunchy and we loved the small slices of pepperoni that crisped up on the edges. Standby pies like Meat Lovers and Pepperoni are available, but you can also explore creations like Prosciutto & Arugula or Shrimp, Spinach & Artichoke.

In addition to our tasty Margherita pizza, we tried one of their signature Bombowls filled with Mexican rice, beans, chile con queso, and fresh pico de gallo with choice of protein. We topped ours with flavorful beef barbacoa. The succulent shredded beef and Mexican ingredients reminded us of a deconstructed burrito without the shell. Everything was fresh and worked harmoniously together.

Burgers, dogs, sandwiches, shakes, and hot cider mill donuts(!) are also available.

What’s a casual competition without a cold Michigan brew? The HUB’s state-of-the-art draft system fills up the perfect pint in a matter of seconds from the bottom up. It’s pretty cool to watch if you’re sitting at the bar.
