5-on-5 is our highly-subjective series of lists released on the 5th day of every month. Our goal is to have fun sharing some of our favorites in various categories. From fish to French fries, pizza to pasties, follow our foodie lists for monthly recommendations across Michigan.
Eggs Benedict has evolved from a stuffy country club and Easter brunch staple to an every day menu item at numerous breakfast havens across metro Detroit. The traditional preparation of poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, Canadian bacon, and English muffins has evolved into so much more. From chorizo to crab, asparagus to beef tenderloin, you can find variations of the classic dish that will please just about any palate. Allow us to share a few of our favorite places to enjoy Eggs Benedict around Detroit.
The Whitney (Detroit)
Weekday brunch at The Whitney gives you plenty of reasons to enjoy their luxurious poached eggs and hollandaise creations any day that ends in ‘y.’ Our personal recommendation is the Eggs Sir Whitney, a fantastic creation prepared with sliced tenderloin that sits atop a garlic cheese baguette. It’s topped with poached eggs and a phenomenal horseradish hollandaise sauce, providing a little kick.
The Jagged Fork (Multiple Locations)
The Jagged Fork has so many mouthwatering breakfast options, we’re still working our way through the menu. Not only do they create some of our favorite skillets in metro Detroit, their Benedicts are worthy of praise. Spice things up with the Voodoo Benedict (chorizo, guacamole, cheddar, and salsa verde) or head to Italy with the Pesto Benedict (basil pesto, sautéed spinach, mozzarella, and tomato).
Jonny Cakes Café (Troy & Canton)
A premier breakfast joint in Troy, Jonny Cakes Café has one of our favorite breakfast dishes in metro Detroit: The Chorizo Benedict. Along with a perfectly poached egg, the spicy chorizo, cool guacamole, cheddar, and fiery ranchero sauce create a festive bite.
Hudson Café (Detroit)
Prepare to get “Benedicted” at the Hudson Café in downtown Detroit. While it’s hard to skip their decadent Pancake and French Toast offerings, you’ll find a solid selection of Benedicts that will have you checking into rehab. Go green with the Eggsparagus Benedict, prepared with asparagus, parmesan cheese, hollandaise, and poached eggs atop an English muffin.
Recipes (Farmington Hills & Troy)
For a healthy selection of Eggs Benedict, Recipes delivers. From the Seafood Benedict to the California Veggie Benedict, there’s something for just about everyone. We love the side of cinnamon apples, too!
Great list we’ve got a lot downriver on everyday menu Taylor Cafe Hillbilly Benedict, Glass Onion Griddle has Crab Benedict everyday and TV’s Diner Salmon Benedict along with a dozen more.
