It was love at first sip when we tried Norma Ray at Republic Tavern. Quench your thirst with this summertime cocktail featuring Valentine vodka, rhubarb liqueur, lemon, fresh watermelon, mint and basil.
The Peterboro – Yellow Suitcase
You could play roulette with The Peterboro‘s cocktail menu and probably enjoy whatever you wound up with. At this point, we’re fans of just about everything they create, including the Yellow Suitcase. This revitalizing cocktail, complete with miniature clothespin and lemon peel garnish, showcases rye, yellow chartreuse, elderflower, and lemon.
Vicente’s Cuban – Mojito
A mojito is a timeless classic that is built for sipping under the sun. Accept no imitations: Vicente’s Cuban Cuisine makes arguably the best in the city.
Townhouse – Basil Smash
Townhouse had us at basil. We’re big fans of the herb, so it’s not surprising that we’re huge fans of their Basil Smash. Gin is accompanied by muddled basil and lemon, creating a drink that keeps us coming back for more.
The Apparatus Room – The Waterman
The Apparatus Room is one of Detroit’s newest hot spots with a breathtaking interior. Endless windows provide ample light, giving the feeling of an indoor/outdoor environment. Enjoy one of their craft cocktails like The Waterman, an easy-drinking combination of tequila, lime, strawberry, and rhubarb while soaking up the atmosphere.
SavannahBlue – Gold Rush
When thinking about summer sippers, bourbon isn’t exactly the first spirit that comes to mind for many people. SavannahBlue flips the script with their bright Gold Rush cocktail. The simple combination of bourbon, lemon, and honey makes for a balanced cocktail with a refreshment factor that will help you get through a hot summer’s day.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Grandma’s Garden at Grey Ghost is one of our favorite cocktails in Detroit. It’s especially rewarding in the summer because of its aromatics and light, crisp finish.
La Feria – Brisa Barcelona
La Feria is a Midtown favorite for Spanish tapas, sangria, and cocktails. We appreciate their selection of gin and tonics using local products from Valentine Distilling, Two James, and Detroit City Distillery. Try the Brisa Barcelona, a refreshing blend of gin, tonic, lime juice, muddled basil, and cucumber wedges.
